Pirate Halloween

Here’s a quick recipe for a pirate Halloween. To frighten your crewmates - make weevil biscuits with blood topping.

You need -
A grown up to work the oven
50g sugar
100g margarine
150g plain flour
Tablespoonful poppy seeds (the weevils)
Red jam (blood)
Get your grown up to turn the oven on to gas mark 4/180’
Beat the butter and sugar until it’s creamy.
Stir in the flour, until it’s all mixed in.
Take a ping-pong ball size of mixture and slightly squash it on to a greased baking tray. Scatter some poppy seeds on top. Do the same for all the biscuit mix, leaving a space between them.
Get your grown up to put the biscuits in the over 10 minutes at gas mark 4.
When they are cool, blob some blood (jam) in the middle.
Eat! And you don’t need to tap the weevils out.
I made loads and I was really pleased with them and went to get my camera. I was only gone 30 seconds but when I got back Dad had wolfed down most of them. I told him they were weevil biscuits and he turned green because he thought he’d eaten real weevils which are a kind of beetle. At least that meant I had the rest for myself.

Pirate Holiday!

Half term, mateys! I’m off to London on Thursday to see the Golden Hind which was Sir Francis Drake's ship. I wonder if it will be like the Sea Wolf? Can’t wait!
Dad says Drake was really a pirate who stole lots of gold. He doesn't look like any pirate I've met. I wouldn't want to climb the rigging dressed like that!

Pirate punishments

Calling all shipmates!  Here be the answers to those dastardly questions.

1.            The left side of a ship is called the Port.
2.        Sam is the Lookout on the Sea Wolf.
3.         When a pirate wants to say ‘yes’, he says Aye!
4.       The British Navy is an enemy of the Sea Wolf.
5.        A pirate uses Knots to tie ropes together.
So the answer is PLANK!
Did you get it? Here be a villainous cove walking the plank.
I’ll tell you about another nasty pirate punishment next time.
